Irony

Jesus served others and lived a humble life.

I think that one of the most eye opening realizations for me with my religion is that we live in an unfair world and Christ isn't/can't do much about that. He can comfort us, but he isn't going to magically give us food to eat. It is important for that family to thank Christ because it is important to understand thanksgiving. It, for me, is being grateful to be in a situation in which they can afford food for their family. Not so much thanking Jesus for personally providing them their food.

However, I think there's more to be had. They need to turn around and be charitable. If you have money and can afford to support your family and even live a bit lavishly, then, in following Christs teachings you should help the poor and do all you can, within your means, to help those less fortunate than yourself.

A major lesson in this for me, being religious, is be grateful for our situations and show faith in God because of that gratitude, but do not forget where that food came from so that you can show that gratitude through prayer and action in giving back.

I think that is a lesson that anyone can take from this. Even if you don't pray, remember where it came from and do all you can to support those people who are providing you a product and still struggling themselves.

(Sorry about that rant). :)

It was a good rant. We have to remember to thank the people who made things happen.

I don't think people really realize where stuff comes from... Like a cow died for you to eat a hamburger. Death and work is in our food and we shouldn't separate it so much. We should acknowledge it.

This is why I actually support hunting, not for sport but to learn survival skills. When you have to kill an animal yourself it brings the humanity back into the situation we have in our supermarkets. How much of that meat in the isle gets thrown out at the end of the day?

Or let's at least witness a cow slaughter so we can appreciate that the cow had to be domesticated so that we could survive in the winter months. You should never kill an animal for sport, but out of necessity.

Sorry. Someone's comment got removed on accident. I'll re-post it here in quotes. My comment above was in response to it.

"Lets go hunting for cows"

We had chickens growing up. We also had horses, a pig, a goat, lots of dogs and who knows what else. I feel that if I was close to animals again I would be more hesitant to eat meet as often as I do just out of respect. All I ask is that people remember where there meal comes from and not to take it for granted.

I agree so much with everything said. Nate and I are talking about a hunting trip maybe this year. I need to know that I can do it. I would like to mention also that hunters are some of the bigest supporters of keeping our wild places wild. Pretty soon we will have to hunt in the burbs.

I would like to join you. If I have time.

Just to go along for the experience I think would be enouph to know if you can stomach it or not. I still need to get a proper rifle. My Ar15 probably won't even bring down a deer.
